Grotta Gigante

The Julian Alpine Society, established in 1883, proposes the exploration, knowledge and study of the mountain environment in its natural and anthropic aspects, with particular regard to the Julian

Alps. It manages the “Grotta Gigante”, a natural cavity in the Trieste Karst which annually attracts about 100,000 visitors from 108 countries around the world.

The cave houses inside a Speleological Scientific Museum, with an exhibition dedicated to various topics such as geology, geophysics, paleontology, archeology and the biology of the local caves as well as the scientific research carried out by important research institutes inside the Giant Cave.
